How to get to Northern Greece

Northern Greece is easily accessible in several ways, whether you prefer by flights, by bus or by train, even in some cases by the sea too. The largest town in North Greece is Thessaloniki, which allows you to reach it by all the possible ways. Not to mention that it includes the second biggest airport in Greece, Thessaloniki International Airport “Makedonia” (SKG), which is among the busiest, serving several domestic and international flights as well. From Thessaloniki, you can reach almost all the cities of mainland Greece by bus or train, alternatively, there are also offered flights to some other cities of the mainland too. Εven further north, there is also Alexandroupoli International Airport “Dimokritos” (AXD) and Kavala International Airport “Alexander the Great” (KVA). How to get to Southern Greece

If you want to get to the south of mainland Greece, in the popular region of Peloponnese, two are the main airports, Kalamata International Airport Captain Vas. Constantakopoulos (KLX) and Patra Araxos Airport (GPA). Apart from flights, Peloponnese also offers a big port, the Port of Patras which receives ferries from several regions of Italy as well as serves routes to some Ionian Islands too. The Peloponnese region is also linked with mainland Greece by the domestic railway network as well as the bus (KTEL) network. 

How to get to Western Greece

In the western part of mainland Greece, you will find the region of Epirus. In case you want to get to Epirus, three are the main ways: by bus, by plane and by ferry. The only airport in mainland Epirus is the Ioannina National Airport “King Pyrrhus” (IOA) which serves only domestic flights. About one hour away from Ioannina you will find Igoumenitsa, the largest port of Epirus which connects the Greek mainland with Italy and the Ionian Islands of Corfu and Paxos. Alternatively, there is also the internal bus network which connects Epirus with Athens and Thessaloniki too. 

How to get to Central Greece

If you want to get to central Greece from Athens 3 are the main ways: by bus, train or car. Athens includes also a large airport, the Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) which offers great facilities and numerous airlines, serving not only domestic flights but also flights from US, Europe and Australia too. Besides, the intercity network connects also the city of Athens with several regions of mainland Greece by trains such as Thessaloniki, Patra and Alexandroupoli, while Kifissos and Liossion intercity bus stations provide routes to almost all the prefectures of Greece including the central and southern Greece as well. Do not miss to mention that in Athens is situated the biggest port of Greece Piraeus Port which connects mainland Greece with Cyclades and Aegean Islands. In case you want to get in the Thessaly another region of central Greece, you can take the intercity bus station (KTEL) or travel by flights through the Nea Anchialos National Airport (VOL) of Volos.
