Are you looking for places to eat and drink in the North Aegean Islands? Here is a guide to the best eating and drinking places in these beautiful islands of the Aegean.

The North Aegean Islands, although not as popular as Cyclades or Dodecanese, have a lot to offer. From picturesque traditional villages to great beaches and superb hospitality. Apart from the gorgeous natural surroundings, the North Aegean Islands are also known for the tasty local food and beverages.

So to speak, great local products and spirits are produced throughout most of the islands. In fact, at Chios and Lesvos you will find the best local beverages and spirits. More specifically, for those who like raki or tsipouro,“Souma” of Chios will enthuse them. Made from figs, which usually are collected at the end of August, Souma is an interesting and very tasty traditional drink which is similar to tsipouro. In Chios, is also produced the famous “Masticha”, a Greek liqueur which is made by Chios mastic. You can enjoy it accompanied by some meze or just as an aperitif. Not to miss mentioning the king of the spirits, as concerned the drinks of the North Aegean Islands, the famed “Ouzo” of Lesvos Island (Mytilene).

The local food of the North Aegean Islands is also worth exploring. Some of the most popular flavours are found in Lemnos, Samos, Chios and Lesvos. In particular, at Lemnos, you will find a super crispy and delicious homemade dessert called “Samsades” (phyllo dough filled with nuts and dressed with thyme honey) and some great PDO cheese varieties called “Melichloro” (cheese made from goat milk) and “Kalathaki” (similar to feta cheese). In addition, a few more PDO dairy products are found also in other North Aegean Islands such as the “Ladotyri” (hard cheese) of Mytilene as well as  “Kopanisti” ( dip made with feta, pepper and herbs) and “Mastelo” (cow’s milk-white cheese) of Chios. Other local products that are worth a try are the olive oil of Samos and the “Masticha” of Chios as well.

As for the nightlife in North Aegean Islands, Lesvos and Samos are the most vivid, including many restaurants, bars and a few clubs. Although less crowded, the rest of the North Aegean Islands also have some cosy bars and cafes and of course great traditional taverns.
